Paiko community report

Like any other community, Paiko is a community with great history background but yet faced with series of social problem.

On the 1^st of February 2017, the king's secretary spoke with IBBUL Mass communication students about the problems faced by the people and their appeal to the government to tackle these problems

Paiko  community consists of undulating plain drift with detached out crops extruded granites, Horns blade and broken out parallel chain of Paiko, Kpanayi, Dobwa Gwam, Zuru and pitter hills.

          East of those lies the lower undulating plantain that forms from the Fuka and Kano settlement, a western slop of which lings the village of kwuli, Jiguoddo  and Gayiggi in the in  southern and eastern part of the area is Gurara River Jatan (Ebba) and the northeast lings the valley of River Chanchanga.

Paiko is watered by the tributaries of Chanchanga, Ebba and gurara.

          The area is banded to the south by plain of Agae Emirate; to the west bt Takuti: to the north it is banded by Bosso, Kufa, Fuka area and to the east by gawu. On the south it is banded by River Jatau and the west by River Undna, Zaje, Jiru and Mujere and to the north by River Gbado.

PAIKO COMMUNITY

          The origin of the founder of the ruling dynasty remain conflicting due to the traditional chain, it is believed that it was founded by a woman named Zara of Borno, origin and linked to Bodo the founder of Kuta ruling dynasty, while another tradition admit that she was from Gwandu.

          whatever is the original birth tradition, admits that she firstly established herself as the head of the settlement at the ware north west of Paiko hills before ascending to where she fortified the new settlement with wars against external attacks. Zara's children became the first ruling dynasty to establish themselves in Paiko.

they were Masuza, Pana and Fangbwa. Fangbwa's children were Shabwai, Ndako and Zubairu. Similarly Zubairu's children became the third generation of Paiko ruler; Esu Kura 1891-1911, Esu Kurago 1911-1918, Esu Karabo 1918- 1936, Esu Dada 1936-1946, Esu Daudu II 1946-1950, Esu Adamu 1950-1953, Esu Bello 1953-1971.

     An ancient city of Paiko is now the local Government head quarter of Paikoro local Government area of Niger state, created in 1992 with total number of eleven Political wards headed by councilor and each political  village heads traditionally in the exception of Paiko ward which is the head quarter of all, by a District head as the traditional head of all the traditional institutions..

   The present day Paiko is headed by His Royal Highness Mallam Musa Abdullahi Paiko, He is also a technical staff at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida  University Lapai (IBBUL). and he has a number of cabinets under which are Adamu Galadima Paiko, He is responsible for the welfare and hospitality of a visitor in Paiko, he is also the representative of all the "Mai angwa's" (head of the street) he is called "wakili". Mallam Isah Adamu is also Mai angwa and is a district leader. His duty is to settle disput amongst members of the community, but when it is beyond his control, he relates it to the king. he also attend to the visitors and ensure the safety of the coomunity, he works together with the Wakili. Alhaji Bawa is the chairman of all the mai angwa committee. bawa goma, he is the sarkin padan mai angwa's (chief messanger of the street head) if there is any issue he inform the Elders or mai angwa's. leader of the mai angwa association Bawa Baba Ishaku. Muhammad Bello he is the "sarkin dawakin Paiko" (the king's right hand-side-man) he is also regarded as the king' staff. the VC IBBUL Professor Nasiru Maiturare is the "Dan masani" (someone who guides in educational issues)

     Also there is committee of king makers Alhaji Garba Muhammad "Nda gbeji paiko" (king  maker). Auta Kpotun Paiko, Sadu, Maki, Wange and many others are the king makers of Paiko, the also serve legislative function of maker law for the Land.

          As a developing community, Paiko is faced with series of social problems

 which low electricity power supply and lack of sufficient social amenities, he said the more pressing issue they had was the issue of their secondary  school (Abubakar Dada secondary school). they said the secondary school is the camping ground for the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC). Whenever the NYSC are in camp, the children are forced home and will remain home for days or weeks, this was going on till the current principal came on board and suggested a strategic way to teach the student at this period, he suggested they make use of the (UK Bello primary school) which is quite a distance from the secondary school, and then they began making use of the Junior secondary school which is close by, they do a shifting with the junior classes,  the junior use it in the morning while the senior uses at noon, which means the principal and the staffs have no offices, the Vice Principal uses his car trunk while some camp under the tree shade.

     The people of  Paiko community are appealing to the government to either build more classes and hostels or change the location of the school... we don't want the government to take camp away because it aid development, but if there is a possibility of changing the location or building more hostels for the students......
